Our journey begins in the city of Coca at 09:00 am when we’ll leave the Malecón in a motorized canoe with all necessary safety. We’ll head down river for about 3 hours to Sacha Runa Eco-Lodge. Here we will be cordially received with a welcome cocktail and accommodation for the night. At 13:00 pm lunch will be ready, and after a short break we’ll travel to Limoncocha Biological Reserve where we’ll do some bird watching, monkey spotting and as the night falls, search for Black Caimans. Finally, we’ll return to the Lodge where a delicious dinner awaits us.
Breakfast will be served at 07:30 am. After breakfast, we’ll prepare our luggage for departure before taking an unforgettable kayak adventure on the Napo River and smaller Shipatia river until we reach the Yaku Kawsay Interpretation Center (the world underwater) located inside the Reserve of Yasuní Biosphere. The Yaku Kawsay Interpretation Center contains masterfully done wood carving of animals that inhabit the water of the Amazon. We’ll have lunch here before continuing our journey down river our stop for the night: Yasuní Añangu After a warm welcome and time to get situated in our cabins, we’ll visit the incredible mammalian saladeros where mammals gather to eat the minerals lacking in their diets. With luck, we will find Peccaries, Tapir, deer, and other species or we will settle for the footprints. At dusk we’ll take a night walk to find amphibians, reptiles, insects, and nocturnal mammals before returning to the camp for dinner and rest.
Our day starts with an early 06:00 am breakfast. At 06:30 am, we’ll head out to visit the parrot saladeros located on the banks of the Napo River to see the gathering of lorikeets and other small parrots. After that, we’ll take a short hike through the jungle to the 40-meter high observation tower built next to a gigantic Ceibo tree. From the top we’ll enjoy an impressive panorama of the rainforest along with the opportunity to more spectacular birds that live high in the canopy. Another slightly longer hike will take us to the macaw saladero where up to 11 species of macaws and other large parrots gather for access to minerals. we’ll return to the lodge for lunch and short break before continuing the journey to our next stop, Pañacocha Lagoon (about a 2 hours downriver).
We’ll make the most of dawn with a kayak trip down the Pañayacu river where we will enjoy a beautiful sunrise and bird songs. During our paddle we’ll see monkeys, shorebirds, and maybe some river dolphins or giant otters. Our paddle will bring us to Pañacocha lagoon where we’ll try our luck at pirañas fishing, before making our way back to camp for breakfast and continuing on to Nuevo Rocafuerte on the border between Peru and Ecuador.
After lunch we’ll head out again for the Aguarico river. As we travel deeper into the Amazon Rainforest and away from civilization, we’ll have more opportunity to see wildlife and landscapes untouched by humankind. After about an hour of travel, we’ll arrive at our final destination, Cocaya. After being welcomed by the staff and shown to our cabins, we’ll have the rest of the day to relax and rest, as tomorrow will be an early day with the river dolphins.
Rise and shine with a 5:30 am breakfast! We’ll eat quickly so we can be out on the river will the dawn is still waking. We’ll make our way to the Aguarico River where we’ll be most likely to see pink dolphins. At one point along our route, you’ll also have the opportunity and option to feed the dolphins by hand.
Next we’ll head back to the Cocaya river where we’ll dock and take a short walk in the jungle of the Cuyabeno reserve to the macaw and parrot saladero. During the walk your guide will point out and explain some of the different medicinal, edible, timber, hallucinogenic, and poisonous plants found and used in the jungle. Finally, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch followed by an afternoon back on the river spotting wildlife and the possibility to play with the fantastic Pink Dolphins. During the evening we’ll go for a night walk to look for some of the nocturnal jungle inhabitants like amphibians, reptiles, insects, and small mammals. Finally, we’ll return to the lodge where a delicious dinner and farewell cocktails, as tomorrow we head back to Coca and the end of our journey.
We’ll be up by 5:00 am for breakfast and ready to depart back to Coca by 06:00 am. We’ll stop again at Pañacocha for lunch. We’ll reach Coca around 17:00 pm.
