With over 600 different species of birds present throughout the reserve, Yasuní Biological Reserver is one of the most biodiverse places on planet Earth. We have created an unparalleled experience to give bird lovers and watchers the opportunity to see them up close and in their natural habitat. We travel trails through the jungle, navigate lagoons and streams, ascend to the canopy heights in order to maximize your bird watching experience.
After a 30-minute commercial flight, our specialized bird guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the Hotel el Auca where you will receive instructions for the start of your trip with a good Amazonian coffee. From there, we’ll head to the marina and then downriver to the lodge. Upon arrival you’ll be shown to your rooms and have time to settle in before lunch.
In the afternoon we’ll take our first short walk along the nearby trails and canoe ride to start off our birding watching.
Upon return to the lodge, our chef will be happy to offer a wide variety of national and international cuisine catering, including vegetarian and vegan options.
Breakfast will be served at 4:30 am after which we’ll depart for the Napo River to visit the clay licks in the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve for a wonderful view of hundreds of parrots in search of mineral-rich clay to aid in their digestion. Here you’ll have the chance to see Mealy Amazon parrots, Yellow-crowned parrot, Blue-headed parrot, dusky-headed parakeet.
We’ll continue with a walk to the Papagayos clay licks where these beautiful birds come down to drink the water rich in mineral earth. Here you can see scarlet macaws, Orange-cheeked parrots, Cobalt-winged parakeets. Lunch and rest.
During the afternoon we’ll visit the southern part of the reserve and experience a bird eye view in the treetops from the 40-meter (132-foot) observation tower.
