We recommend arriving in Coca the day before the tour departure as the tour departs at 08:00 am. We’ll make our way by land to the bridge of the Shiripuno River. This is where our adventure begins; in the heart of Yasuní, Waorani territory. From here we’ll take a canoe downriver. During the 2 hour trip we will see many species of bird such as toucans, macaws and other species.
Upon arrival to the Waorani village, the family will welcome in the traditional Waorani style. We’ll take some time to get situated and meet our hosts and then after dinner we’ll take a night walk to look for nocturnal animals.
At 06:00 breakfast will be ready. We’ll then get ready for a walk in the jungle to an animal saladeros (salt licks) with the possibility of finding large mammals such as Saíno (wild boar), deer, monkeys, parrots, toucans among other species. We’ll return to the camp for lunch and after a short rest we’ll head out by canoe to fish for the fearsome piranha. In the evening we’ll have dinner and then listen to the myths and legends of the Waorani.
Breakfast will be served at 05:00 am. Afterward we’ll continue with the expedition down the river to the small Cononaco river where we’ll switch to Kayaks. Here we’ll be able to observe many species that come to the river to drink from its waters or freshen up. We arrive at the camp area where we will set up the tents and have lunch. During the afternoon you will go bird watching from the river and fishing. Return to camp, dinner and rest.
Breakfast is ready at 06:30, then we’ll embark on a 6-hour hike (round trip), at the pace of the Waorani since they are used to walking long distances, during the journey we will appreciate different species of flora and fauna of the jungle. We’ll arrive back at the camp for lunch and after a short rest we’ll take the kayaks back out. At nightfall we will visit a Waorani family and participate in the cultural activity full of myths, legends and Waorani music.
After a 5:00 am Breakfast, we’ll travel by canoe with our luggage to the Shiripuno bridge. As we make our way back to the bridge and then on to Coca, we’ll enjoy this last visage of jungle and its marvelous species. We’ll arrive at the Shiripuno bridge around 3:30 p.m., and arrive back in Coca at 6:30 pm.
