“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” – Martin Buber
We leave from the city of Coca at 08:00 am. in a private canoe. We’ll stop at Pañacocha for lunch before continuing on to Rocafuerte; arriving by 16:00 pm. Here we’ll switch smaller canoes and continue down the Yasuní River, one of the important tributary to the great Amazon River. We’ll arrive at our destination around 18:00 pm and set up camp at the Guardian of Tambococha Station. Once setup is finished, we’ll have dinner at 19:30 pm followed by the option of a night walk before retiring for the night.
Before breakfast we‘ll go search for the fantastic Pink Dolphin of the Amazon. After taking all the photos you like, we’ll return for breakfast followed by a roughly 3-hour walk through the jungle in hopes of seeing some of its unique wildlife. Our hike will return us to camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll do some more wildlife sighting, this time we hope to spot howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and spider monkeys. Afterward we’ll visit the lagoon of Jatuncocha one of the largest lagoons in Yasuní to birdwatch and enjoy the calm waters. Later that night, we’ll go caiman spotting.
Breakfast is early at 05:00 am. We’ll travel up Aguarico river to Cocaya where we have the opportunity to play with the Pink Dolphins. After lunch, we’ll take another hike through the jungle to see more animals and unique plants before trying our luck at piraña fishing.
As we make our way back fro dinner we’ll enjoy a spectacular sunset on the Aguarico River. After dinner, we’ll go for another night walk in the jungle to see more amphibians, reptiles, insects and other creatures of the night.
Breakfast is at 06:00, after we’ll break camp, pack our canoe and head to Yasuní Añangu (approximately 5 hours) where we’ll stay in cabins and beds for the night. We’ll take our lunch around 13:30 pm, and after a short rest, we’ll get ready for a hike into the jungle where we will visit a mammal saladero and with luck we’ll find some more species of monkeys, peccaries, or tapirs. Or we’ll settle for the tracks. We will return to camp for dinner and rest .
We’ll have another early breakfast at 05:30 am before visiting 2 more incredible saladero to view parakeets and lorikeets along the Napo river. Afterward we’ll take a short walk to the 45-meter high tower where we can enjoy a spectacular landscape of almost endless jungle. Our final stop will be another saladero where up to 11 species of parrots are known to visit. During the return back to camp we have the option of visiting a local Kichwa community to learn about their culture. Upon arrival back at camp, we’ll have lunch before packing up and heading back to the City of Coca around 17:00 pm.
