Life was meant for good friends and great adventures
Leave the Port of Coca at 8:00 am. We start our adventure by motorized canoe to reach our destination, Pañacocha, on the Napo River. The Napo is one of the major tributary rivers the feed the mighty Amazon River. After a brief stop to serve lunch, we will continue to the Pañayacu river, or Piranhas River, junction. There we will travel upriver to reach Pañacocha. As Pañayacu is a smaller river that feeds the Napo River, during this stretch you will have the opportunity to observes some species of birds that frequent the smaller rivers such as Hoazín, Toucans, River ducks, Kingfishers, Oropendolas, and woodpeckers, as well as some monkeys: squirrel monkeys, capuchins, and red howler monkeys. After enjoying the fauna of the area, we will arrive at our camp site along the Piguali Cocha (Heron Lagoon) around 16:00 pm.
You will have time to get settle in your tents and explore the area before we head out for a night walk to obverse some of the fascinating nocturnal species found here including many species of frogs, insects, and reptiles. After our walk, dinner will be served as we listen to a to the songs of the nighttime jungle.
Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am, followed by a walk through the magnificent Amazon jungle in hopes of observing some of the diurnal mammal, bird, and reptile inhabitants as well as learn about some of the unique plant species such as medicinal plants and gigantic trees found in our jungles.
We will return to our camp by 13:00 pm for lunch, followed by an afternoon spent fishing for piranha and swimming in the Pañacocha lagoon. Afterwards, we will explore other surrounding lagoons for more wildlife as this area is ideal habitat for many species of unique flora and fauna before returning to camp. After our 19:00 pm, we will head out on to the Pañayacu River for a chance to spot caiman.
Our day starts early at 6:00 am for breakfast after which we will travel by canoe on the Pañayacu river to the starting point for a 3 to 4-hour jungle hike. While we walk, our guide will show us traditional medicinal plants, trees, and shrubs used by the Kichwa people as well as animal tracks and sightings. We will return to the camp to have lunch
After lunch, we have the opportunity to paddle around Piguali cocha to look for wildlife including monkeys and birds that visit the lagoon. Followed by a relaxing night at camp.
Before breakfast, we will head to Piguali cocha to enjoy the sunrise over the jungle and the morning birds of the lagoon. We will return to the camp for breakfast at 8:00 am, and to pack up our camp site and begin our return to Coca.
With a stop along the way to have lunch, we should arrive back in Coca and the end of our adventure around 15:00 pm.
