Come explore the wonders of this ancient natural world!
This wetland complex is located in the territories located on the northern end of the Ecuadorian Amazon and border with Peru is home to more than 50 lakes that feed the Aguarico river, which in turn flows into the Napo River. It is home to much of the flora and fauna of the Amazon.
In addition, this area borders three protected natural areas, the ‘Reserva de Producción de Fauna Cuyabeno’, in Ecuador, the ‘Parque Nacional Güeppí Sekime’ and the ‘Reserva Comunal Airo Pai’ in Peru. These wetlands are part of the “Wet Forests of Napo” Ecoregion, recognized for containing the highest levels of endemic and diverse species in the world including 234 species of mammals (of which 120 are bats), 650 species of birds, 156 of reptiles and 180 of amphibians. The bountifulness of this region is owed to the natural refuge the geography created during the last ice age during the Pleistocene epoch.
We’ll depart from Puerto de la Marina in El Coca at 08:00 am by motorized canoe and travel about 3 hours to Yasuni Añangu. Here we’ll check in at the cabins of the Pilchi community and after lunch, get ready for a walk to the 45-meter high viewing tower where we’ll get a bird’s eye view of the jungle and observe different species of birds and monkeys. Later as the day wanes to enjoy the dusk we’ll continue our walk into the night to look for nocturnal amphibians, reptiles, and insects before returning to the cabins to have dinner and rest..
